G2i Site- Grinding Concrete and Asphalt. Pile of asphalt with a trackhoe on top loading concrete into grinder

As construction progresses at the Gateway to Innovation (G2i) campus at the Dr. Mendel H. Stewart Campus, the project continues to reflect thoughtful planning and responsible stewardship of resources.

Concrete and asphalt removed during site preparation are not being discarded. Instead, those materials are being ground on-site and reused within the project’s infrastructure. By recycling these materials on-site, the project reduces landfill waste, minimizes hauling and disposal costs, and reduces the need to purchase additional base materials.

This approach not only supports environmental sustainability but also reduces overall project costs. Fewer truckloads leaving and re-entering the site means lower transportation expenses, less fuel usage, and more efficient use of existing resources. Every dollar saved through strategic decisions like this helps ensure that public funds are directed where they matter most: creating high-quality learning environments for students.

Gateway to Innovation is designed to prepare students for the future through hands-on, career-focused education. It is fitting that the campus itself models responsible resource management and practical problem-solving throughout the construction process.

As work continues, G2i stands as an example of how innovation and fiscal responsibility can work together to benefit both students and the community.
